What Chronicle of a Death Foretold Is About
A river town in Colombia. On a wedding night it emerges that the bride is not a virgin, and her brothers announce openly to everyone that they are going to kill the man she names. The whole town knows, nobody takes it seriously or prevents it, and the murder happens in the middle of the square. Years later a man returning to the town reconstructs it. Adapted from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel, which is itself based on a real killing in Colombia in 1951. Francesco Rosi's film is not about the killers but about complicity.
