What Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer Is About
As attorney general in New York, Eliot Spitzer took Wall Street to court, going after insurers, brokers and the large banks. He was elected governor in 2006 and carried on the same way. In 2008 his name surfaced in a federal investigation: in an escort agency's records he was client number nine. He resigned within a week. The documentary tells two things at once: a career a politician ended himself, and how eager certain people were to see it made public. Alex Gibney directs; a hundred and seventeen minutes, with Spitzer sitting in front of the camera and talking. The film does not soften what he did. But it also asks whether the same offence would have been investigated this fast and this widely for anyone else, and what part his enemies played in it.
