What Park Avenue: Money, Power & The American Dream Is About
The documentary starts from the address 740 Park Avenue in Manhattan, the building where more billionaires live than any other in the United States. It then moves to the stretch of the same avenue that runs north into the South Bronx. The distance between them is a few kilometres, but the gap in income, in health and in life expectancy is enormous. Alex Gibney's documentary argues that income inequality in America is no accident and that the rules have been written in favour of the wealthy. The film was shown on American public television and an argument broke out around the broadcast: a donor named in the documentary was also a backer of the network. Critics also said the film gave too little room to the people living in the Bronx.
