What Crainquebille Is About
Jérôme Crainquebille is an ageing seller. He sells vegetables in Paris. He has kept the work going from his cart for forty years. The street is where he works. One day a policeman harasses him. The policeman insists that he move on. Crainquebille objects to it. After his objection he is arrested. The stated reason is that he swore at the policeman. Nothing of the sort had happened. The account is built on that unjust charge. The film was made in the silent period. Maurice de Féraudy and Jean Forest take the leads, with Félix Oudart and Marguerite Carré also in the cast, in Jacques Feyder’s French and Belgian coproduction of 1922.
