The Great Game

Pierre, a young lawyer, falls into heavy debt because of the expensive life of his mistress and puts the family firm in danger. His family asks him to leave the country, and to avoid a scandal he enlists in the Foreign Legion. In Morocco, at the edge of the desert, he goes to a place run as a bar, a restaurant and a brothel at once, and there meets a woman who is the double of his former mistress except for the colour of her hair. Because of an accident the woman cannot remember part of her recent past, and Pierre slowly persuades himself that she is the same person. Marie Bell and Charles Vanel appear in Jacques Feyder’s hundred and ten minute French film, completed in 1934.
