What The New Gentlemen Is About

Gaillac is an electrician at the Paris Opera. He is in love with Suzanne, a dancer there. Suzanne has a protector, Count Montoire, a powerful man in politics. A strike breaks out at the Opera. Gaillac is put at the head of the strikers and handles it well. He ends up in the cabinet as minister of labour. Now he sits at the same table as Montoire, and Suzanne is caught between the two of them. One scene turns on the Chamber itself, where a sleeping deputy dreams the benches are filled with opera dancers. The French government banned the film in 1929. The reason given was the dignity of parliament and its ministers. The ban held for several months and the film went out with cuts, by which time Feyder had already left for Hollywood. Albert Préjean and Gaby Morlay appear in the hundred and twenty three minute film, a French production Jacques Feyder finished in 1929.
