What Gribiche Is About
Gribiche is a small boy whose mother was widowed by the war. A wealthy woman adopts him. What she wants is to turn him into a perfect gentleman. In the new house Gribiche has everything, and before long he is unhappy. What he is taught there does not resemble his own life. The film tells how the wish to do good turns into an effort to force someone into a mould. What moving up a class means for a child is the real subject. It comes from French silent cinema of 1926. Jean Forest and Françoise Rosay appear in Jacques Feyder’s hundred and thirteen minute French film, completed in 1926.
