Crayon Shin-chan: Jungle That Invites Storm

A family going to a show at the zoo in Kasukabe find themselves in the hands of an organisation. Its leader is a monkey with a plan to take over the world by turning every human into an animal. The family is taken to an island. The mother and father are neutralised, leaving the five-year-old. The subject is not adventure but parents vanishing all at once. In the second half Shinnosuke decides on his own, and the known template of the series operates again: a narrative running on crude jokes arrives unexpectedly somewhere emotional. The form is broader than the television episodes. The island, the jungle and the sea are drawn in detail and the action sequences are held long. It is the eighth feature in the series and one of those directed by Keiichi Hara. In this period Hara became known for building the Shin-chan films to work for adults as well; his next one became the best-known example of that approach. Akiko Yajima voices Shinnosuke. Who it is for: viewers following the Shin-chan series and anyone who likes Japanese family animation. Who it is not for: anyone who dislikes crude humour; the film shows no restraint there.
