Crayon Shin-chan: Super-Dimension! The Storm Called My Bride

Tamiko arrives from the future and tells Shin-chan she is his bride to be. She has one request: the adult Shin-chan is in the hands of the ruler of Neo Tokio and has to be rescued. The five-year-old Shin-chan travels to the future with his family and friends. There he sees his grown-up self and is not impressed. This is one of the feature films in the Crayon Shin-chan series. The narrative combines the usual crude humour with a science-fiction plot; the rules of time travel are not taken seriously, and that is deliberate. Akira Shigino directed. The film's strength is the way meeting his own future returns Shin-chan to his family, a note repeated across the series that puts an unexpected sentiment among the crude jokes. Who it's for: Crayon Shin-chan viewers and anyone who likes Japanese family animation and time-travel comedy. Who it's not for: The humour rests largely on body jokes, and a viewer who does not know the series will stay outside the characters' dynamic.
