What Crayon Shin-chan: The Hidden Treasure of the Buri Buri Kingdom Is About
This 1994 Crayon Shin-chan film is one of the early entries in the series' cinema tradition. The Nohara family learn they have won a holiday to the Kingdom of Buri Buri, which turns out to be a trap laid by an organisation that wants to kidnap Shin-chan. The family find themselves inside a palace intrigue and a hunt for hidden treasure. The film keeps the crude humour regular viewers expect while taking the adventure form seriously: the chases, the palace's secret passages and the large-scale finale carry a production quality clearly above the television episodes. The Nohara family's attachment to each other is the emotional line the series sustains throughout, and it works here. It is one of the well-remembered entries in the long-running Shin-chan film tradition. Who it's for: viewers of Crayon Shin-chan and anyone who likes family animation. Who it's not for: those with no patience for the series' toilet humour and Shin-chan's antics.
