What Crossed Tracks Is About
The successful novelist Judith Ralitzer is being questioned at a police station about the disappearance of her ghost writer. At the same time a serial killer has escaped from a prison in Paris, and a schoolteacher has walked out on his wife and children and vanished. On the road, a hairdresser called Huguette, abandoned at a petrol station by her fiancé, is helped by a man. She asks him to pass as her fiancé for twenty-four hours. Nobody knows who this man is. Claude Lelouch tangles the three stories together from the start and deliberately leaves it unclear which is real and which is invention. Fanny Ardant, Dominique Pinon and Audrey Dana star. Lelouch presented the film under a pseudonym at its first screenings.
