What Deadlier Than the Male Is About
A middle-aged man runs a restaurant in Les Halles in Paris and his life is orderly and quiet. Then his ex-wife's daughter Catherine turns up at the door: her mother has died, she has nobody, she needs help. He takes her in, and then he marries her. Nothing she has told him is true, and her arrival was planned from the start. When a young student enters the picture it goes as far as betrayal and murder. Julien Duvivier constructs one of the coldest women in postwar French cinema here. Jean Gabin and Danièle Delorme star. Despite the English title it has nothing to do with the 1966 British film of the same name.
