Marianne of My Youth

The film is set at a boarding school in Bavaria. A new student arrives there. The young man plays the guitar and sings. He is good with animals. To those around him there is something unusual about him. A closed circle of students exists at the school. The newcomer is taken into it. An island stands in the middle of the lake. On the island there is an abandoned château. His friends leave him stranded there. In the château he meets a young woman. She wants to get away from the place. The story takes on the air of a fairytale. The real and the imagined run into each other. The film was made in two separate languages. Horst Buchholz and Marianne Hold appear in the one hundred five minute film, a French and German production Julien Duvivier finished in 1955.
