Gilda Live

Gilda Radner was in the first cast of Saturday Night Live. In 1979 she put on her own show on Broadway. It played at the Winter Garden Theatre. She carried it almost alone. The film is that show on camera. Radner brings her television characters onto the stage. Roseanne Roseannadanna is one of them. Emily Litella, Lisa Loopner and Baba Wawa are there too. The sketches go further than they could on television. Songs and impersonations come in between. When Radner steps off, Father Guido Sarducci takes the stage. Don Novello plays Sarducci. It was shot in Boston in 1979. Mike Nichols directed it and Lorne Michaels produced. It opened on 28 March 1980. Paul Shaffer also appears in the ninety six minute film, an American production finished in 1980.
