What Glastonbury Is About
In 2002, worried that licensing problems might finish the festival, Michael Eavis asked Julien Temple to film that year; Temple decided instead to take on the whole history, from 1970 to 2005. The film is assembled from what he shot between 2002 and 2005, from amateur footage sent in by festivalgoers after appeals in newspapers and online, from outtakes of what Nicolas Roeg shot in 1971, and from Channel 4 and BBC coverage going back to 1994. David Bowie, Björk, Blur, Oasis and Coldplay all appear. The result is not a concert record but a record of what happened in one field over thirty-five years.
