Oil City Confidential

The documentary tells the story of a band. The band is Dr Feelgood. Their home was Canvey Island, an island in Essex. The place is ringed with refineries and the view is industrial. The band came up at the start of the seventies. Long and elaborate music was the fashion then. Dr Feelgood did the opposite. They played short, hard and fast numbers. Their staging was just as plain. Their concerts made a name quickly. That approach prepared the ground for what came after. Pub rock and punk both passed through it. The film moves through archive footage and interviews. The tie between the island and the music comes to the front. Wilko Johnson and Lee Brilleaux appear in the hundred and four minute documentary, a British production Julien Temple finished in 2009.
