A boy who falls asleep in front of the television in the fifties wakes at the start of the eighties into a country reshaped entirely by advertising and consumption. Through his cousin Carlina he moves into the Milan flat where she lives with two other women, and his arrival alters both the household budget and the relationships in it. Maurizio Nichetti wrote, directed and played the lead, and does not speak a word for the length of the film, wandering silently through a reality he cannot decode. It was his second feature after Ratataplan, shown at Venice the year before, and opened in October 1980.
