What Holiday for Henrietta Is About
Two screenwriters sit down to write a film and cannot agree on what should happen to their heroine Henriette. One wants something light: a shopgirl falling for a young photographer on Bastille Day. The other wants murder and menace. Julien Duvivier turns that quarrel into the film itself, staging the same scene twice in two genres depending on who is telling it. The idea travelled: Hollywood remade it in 1964 as Paris When It Sizzles. Henri Jeanson wrote with Duvivier, Louis Seigner and Henri Crémieux play the arguing writers, and Hildegard Knef turns up as a circus bareback rider in one of the versions the writers try out.
