Jîn

Reha Erdem's 2013 film follows Jîn, seventeen years old. She leaves an armed group in the mountains and sets out on her own, which makes her a fugitive both from the group she left and from the army. She spends days in forest and rock among animals, trying to reach a city. The film moves almost without dialogue; it names neither the organisation nor the state, and argues no one's case. The armed conflict that has run for more than three decades in Turkey's east and southeast is not background here, it is the landscape itself. Erdem films nature as another party caught inside the war. Deniz Hasgüler plays Jîn.
