Karate Bear Fighter

Masutatsu Oyama is called in by an old army friend to work for a gang. But the gang kills both his girlfriend and his closest friend. Oyama flees to a small town, and there a wandering master teaches him the philosophy of the martial arts. In the same town he meets a boy trying to raise money for his injured father. What the boy faces is a fight with a captured bear, and Oyama helps him. The film builds fighting not as a display but as the question of where anger is to be directed. It comes from the hard vein of Japanese karate films of 1975. Sonny Chiba takes the lead in Kazuhiko Yamaguchi’s eighty seven minute Japanese film, completed in 1975.
