What Karate for Life Is About
The karateka Masutatsu Oyama takes up professional wrestling in Okinawa to earn money, but quits in disgust when he sees that the bouts are arranged in advance and that he is expected to lose. Some time later he learns that a friend needs money for medicine, and takes to the ring again as the only way out; whether he will follow the script this time is the question left standing. Kazuhiko Yamaguchi’s ninety one minute Japanese film is the last of the trilogy drawn from Oyama’s life, and carries a question of honour as much as the weight of its fight scenes. Sonny Chiba takes the lead; it was completed in 1977.
