What Keep an Eye on Amelia Is About
The comfortable life a young woman leads with her lover is upset when he goes off to do his military service. Before leaving he entrusts her to a friend; but that friend is a philanderer who needs a marriage in name only in order to come into an inheritance, and he thinks she will do. When a prince enters as well the matter becomes thoroughly tangled and who is persuading whom of what grows unclear. The film comes from a stage comedy and does not hide it; the stage, the audience and what happens behind the curtain enter the film from time to time. The account preaches no morals and shows how each of them looks after their own interest. Danielle Darrieux plays the lead in Claude Autant-Lara’s ninety two minute French film, completed in 1949.
