Khel Khel Mein

Directed by Mudassar Aziz, this Hindi comedy is an official adaptation of Paolo Genovese's 2016 Italian film Perfetti sconosciuti, which holds the Guinness World Record for most remade film, with twenty four separate versions as of early 2024 stretching from Spain to South Korea and Mexico to Vietnam. Curiously, no English language version has ever been made. In this adaptation, three married couples and a single friend gather at a wedding in Jaipur and agree to place all their phones on the table, sharing every incoming call, message and email with the group. As the game exposes secrets, the gap between each couple's actual life and the identity they have constructed on social media comes apart. Fardeen Khan returned to film with this after a fourteen year absence, and voices heard through the phones include cameos from Ananya Panday and Arjun Kapoor. Critics were reasonably kind, giving it seventy eight percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but it collapsed commercially, grossing around fifty seven crore rupees against a hundred crore budget, because Stree 2 opened the same day and took nine times its opening day figure. Who it's for: Fans of single location ensemble comedies built around secrets coming out. Who it's not for: Not for anyone who has seen the original or another remake, since the film keeps the story skeleton largely intact.
