What La Maison de la Radio Is About
Making a film about a radio building does not sound like a visually promising project. Nicolas Philibert took the challenge, spent half a year wandering the endless corridors of the Radio France round house on the bank of the Seine, and set out to show what cannot be seen: how many takes a door opening and closing needs before it sounds right, how a presenter’s tone is adjusted, how silence is managed on air. What emerges is a portrait of people wholly given over to their work. The real subject is not radio but attention.
