Life Dances On

Christine has lost her husband. Going through her old things at home, she finds a dance card from her youth; it is from a ball she went to at sixteen, and on it are written the names of the men who danced with her that night. Christine decides to find every one of them. Twenty years later she knocks at their doors and finds a completely different life behind each one. Julien Duvivier's film is built out of episodes, and each episode has a different man and a different actor. The cast brings together the biggest names in French cinema at the time: Raimu, Louis Jouvet, Harry Baur, Pierre Blanchar and Fernandel. Every meeting opens the distance between the man Christine remembers and the real one. Some have fallen, some have become someone else, and some have never forgotten that night. Two hours and ten minutes.
