What Life Is a Miracle Is About

Luka, a Serbian railway engineer, arrives in Bosnia in 1992 and settles in a small village with his son and a wife who dreams of singing opera. He is pursuing a rail line that will develop the region and keeps his ears shut to the rumours of war. Then the war arrives: his wife runs off with a musician, his son is conscripted and taken prisoner. To get the boy back, Luka is put in charge of guarding a young Muslim nurse who is to be swapped, and what happens between them was nobody’s plan. Emir Kusturica again keeps comedy, music and tragedy inside the same scene. Long, loud, and unashamed of its feeling.
