In a mountain village an old man is left with his grandson Cane and a cow. Before he dies the grandfather gives the boy a task: go down to the city, sell the cow, buy an icon and come home with a bride. Cane goes down knowing nothing about the place and falls into all of it, small-time criminals, thugs and a girl who is always late for school. Emir Kusturica is working with his usual materials: a brass band, animals, cartoon physics and music that never stops. Which is also why he was accused of repeating himself.
