Long Live Ghosts!

A group of boys sneak into the ruins of an old castle where they are not supposed to be, and run into a ghost there. The ghost is caught in a trap; when the boys free him an alliance forms between them. The town authorities are planning to pull the ruins down and put a mushroom farm in their place, and that has to be stopped. Directed by Oldřich Lipský, the film is a children's musical. Its songs caught on in Czechoslovakia and the film is counted a classic there. The telling builds its ghost story from the comic side rather than the frightening one. The adult world here is not stupid but narrow, and that is the shared problem of the children and the ghost. It is eighty-five minutes, light and cheerful.
