Made in Abyss: Journey's Dawn

Made in Abyss: Journey's Dawn, directed by Masayuki Kojima, opened in Japan on January 4, 2019, as the first of a two part theatrical compilation of the 2017 TV series; the second part, Wandering Twilight, followed two weeks later on January 18, 2019. Journey's Dawn compiles the series' first eight episodes with new opening scenes added. The production team is identical to the TV series: screenwriter Hideyuki Kurata, composer Kevin Penkin, and animation studio Kinema Citrus. The film had a limited US theatrical run through Sentai Filmworks and Fathom Events, subtitled on March 20, 2019, and dubbed on March 25, 2019. Who it's for: anyone curious about the first half of a two part theatrical compilation bringing a TV series' first eight episodes to the big screen with the same production team. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a complete story without watching its follow up, Wandering Twilight, since this is only the first of two parts.
