Morning for the Osone Family

The film opens in 1943. The war is at its heaviest. The Osone family lives in one house. The widow Fusako is at the head of it. Her four grown children are with her. The household is liberal in its outlook. Then the war comes inside. One son is arrested for his antiwar writing. Another, a painter, is called up. The third enlists of his own accord. His uncle had a hand in that decision. The uncle stands with the military order, and he moves in with his wife, so that the divide inside the house grows sharper. Haruko Sugimura and Eitarō Ozawa appear in the eighty one minute film shot on a single set, a Japanese production Keisuke Kinoshita finished in 1946.
