Wedding Ring

Noriko runs a jewellery business in Tokyo and it is doing well. Her husband Michio is ill, and she takes him to a doctor outside the city so that he can recover. He had been called up for the war soon after the marriage and did not come home until years later. The doctor’s name is Takeshi Ema; the treatment works and Michio begins to pick up. In the meantime, though, Noriko starts to feel something for the doctor. A knot of three people is tied that way. The film tells it quietly rather than from a position of blame. The seaside town sets the air of the account. Kinuyo Tanaka and Toshiro Mifune take the leads in Keisuke Kinoshita’s Japanese film of 1950.
