What Motel Destino Is About
A motel on the coast of Ceará in northeastern Brazil, the kind that rents rooms by the hour. Elias runs it, with his restless wife Dayana. Heraldo, twenty-one and running from a job that went wrong, takes shelter there, and Dayana keeps him on. What follows is a thriller built out of power, appetite and a plan to get out. The sex in it is not decoration; it is the only leverage any of the three has over the others. Karim Aïnouz drowns the film in neon and sweat, and it played in the main competition at Cannes in 2024. Iago Xavier and Nataly Rocha star.
