What My Son, the Hero Is About
In northern Mexico at the start of the twentieth century, Reynaldo del Hierro is shot in front of his sons by Pascual Velazco. Their mother raises Reynaldo and Martín on the idea of revenge, and once they have carried it out their lives change for good: both become hired killers while she is eaten away by loneliness and hatred. Ismael Rodríguez’s western failed completely at the box office, though it brought him a Golden Globe nomination for best director in 1963. In a 1994 critics’ poll for the magazine Somos it was voted the fifteenth best Mexican film ever made.
