Mimí Derba What You the Rich Is About
From the golden age of Mexican cinema, the second film of the Pepe el Toro trilogy. Pepe is a carpenter, married to Celia la Chorreada, with two children, and the family is holding on in their neighbourhood, barely. Then it emerges that Chachita's real grandmother is a wealthy woman, and she takes the girl away into her own world. The distance between poverty and wealth is the whole subject, which the title says outright. Pedro Infante plays Pepe. Ismael Rodríguez directed all three films. The melodrama is laid on heavily, and in Mexico generations have grown up on it.
