What Tizoc Is About

Tizoc is an Indigenous hunter. His ability to take an animal without damaging its hide, and his calm and his good sense besides, draw both admiration and envy from those around him. Then he sees María, newly arrived in the village, and falls in love with her. María is the daughter of a wealthy family, white and from the city. There is feeling between them, but what stands in the way is not feeling: it is how two worlds regard each other, the difference of language, and a line nobody dares cross. Ismael Rodríguez directs, with Pedro Infante and María Félix. Infante won the best actor award at Berlin for the part; because he died in a plane crash the year the film came out, the award was posthumous. The film was named best foreign film at the Golden Globes.
