What New Battles Without Honor and Humanity 1 Is About
Miyoshi, a low-level gunman in the Yamamori family, goes to prison after a hit that does not come off. While he is inside, Aoki makes a move on the boss, and by the time Miyoshi is out he is stuck between two factions with no honourable way through. Kinji Fukasaku made this after the five-film run he began in 1973, at Toei’s insistence; Bunta Sugawara leads again but as a different man, and much of the old cast came back in new parts. Released in December 1974, it works as a restart that builds the same world again from nothing.
