What One Nite in Mongkok Is About
When a gang boss's son is killed in a drunken fight in Hong Kong, a war between two sides is one night away. Officer Milo's unit gets the case and quickly learns a hitman has been hired to take out the rival boss. The hitman, Lai Fu, has come from a small town on the mainland, clever and completely inexperienced, and in Mongkok his path crosses a woman with nowhere to go. The film covers a single night and refuses to flatten anyone: the policeman, the killer and the woman working the street are all squeezed by the same vice. What Derek Yee brings to it is less action than the helplessness of the people in it. Cecilia Cheung and Daniel Wu star.
