Parasyte: Part 1

A Japanese science fiction film. Small creatures come down from the sky. Each looks for a person and tries to settle in the brain; when it succeeds it takes over the body completely and starts behaving like a human. They feed on humans as well. Shinichi is a high school student. Sleeping at night with headphones on, one of the creatures gets into him but cannot reach his brain; it stays in his right hand. An odd situation results: he has in his hand a being that talks, learns and changes shape. He names it Migi. The two have to come to terms. Migi needs Shinichi to survive; Shinichi has to hide it. At the same time killings increase in the city and the other creatures notice him; a half-made example like him is a danger to them. What the film is interested in is not the monster but the partnership: the two sides do not understand each other and still have to act together. The source is Hitoshi Iwaaki's manga; the narrative is divided into two films and this is the first. Shota Sometani plays Shinichi and Sadao Abe voices Migi. Eri Fukatsu is in the cast. Takashi Yamazaki directed; he comes from effects work and the transformation scenes are the film's strongest side. A solid choice for anyone who likes Japanese science fiction and manga adaptations. Before you watch, know this: the film shows violence directly and does not end on its own.
