Pizza

Michael works delivering pizza and lives with Anu, who writes ghost stories. One night he is locked in behind the door of a house he has delivered to, and he cannot tell anyone what happened inside; when he does, nobody believes him. Karthik Subbaraj set his first film inside a horror template and turns it into something else entirely in the last half hour, and that turn is the film's whole reason to exist. The budget is small, the locations few, and the tension is built entirely on sound and darkness. Vijay Sethupathi leads and the film was one of the turning points of his career. Who it is not for: anyone who knows the ending, since everything rests on that surprise.
