The Bennets have five daughters and their mother has one concern, which is marrying all of them well. When the wealthy Mr Bingley and his distant friend Mr Darcy move into the neighbourhood, the calculations begin. Bingley takes to the eldest, Jane; Darcy and Elizabeth collide every time they meet, each reading the other wrongly. Two things to know about this early adaptation: the costumes belong to a later fashion than the novel, and the ending is softer than Austen's. Aldous Huxley worked on the screenplay.
