The year is 1947 and the month is August. The decision to partition Bengal is taken. The new border is set with a line on a map. The line runs straight through one house. That house is a brothel. Eleven women live in it. Begum Jaan is at the head of the household. The women refuse to leave. The house is to be pulled down and wire put up in its place. Officials try to talk them round. Begum Jaan refuses. The women had already been abandoned by their families. Neither the Hindu nor the Muslim side claimed them. So a border drawn along religion means nothing to them. As the resistance grows the response hardens. Rituparna Sengupta and Jaya Ahsan appear in the hundred and sixty minute film, an Indian production Srijit Mukherji finished in 2015.
