Reflections

Mihajlo, who gives piano lessons at a university in Belgrade, is a withdrawn, quiet man. When he gets close to an ambitious and beautiful woman who works in the same place, something that has not moved in years starts moving. But as the relationship goes on, images begin appearing in his head: some from his childhood, some he never lived through yet remembers as if he had. Goran Marković's film begins like a love story and slides gradually into fear. The source of it is nothing supernatural; it is something that happened in the man's childhood and was never spoken about. The director does not lay the blame on one person, and shows the share belonging to the surroundings and to the silence. Mustafa Nadarević's performance sits at the centre. It is one of the most unsettling Yugoslav productions of the late eighties.
