What Special Education Is About
Pera is a pickpocket and small time thief from somewhere around Belgrade. When his mother is committed to a mental institution he falls into the hands of social services and is sent to a juvenile correction home, where he meets an instructor who does not work by the usual methods. It was Goran Marković's first feature, written with Miroslav Simić. The film neither makes the boys innocent nor declares the institution their rescue; it looks straight at the idea of correction itself and whether it actually works. Bekim Fehmiu plays the instructor and Slavko Štimac the boy, with Ljubiša Samardžić also in the cast. It screened at the Pula Film Festival in 1977.
