What Reinventing Elvis: The 68' Comeback Is About
The documentary is about a television special broadcast in 1968. Elvis Presley had been away from the stage for years. His manager Tom Parker was planning a return. What he had in mind was a Christmas show. The songs were to suit the season. NBC picked Steve Binder to direct. What Binder had in mind was something else entirely. Presley took to Binder’s idea. Parker did not like it, and the tension held through the preparations. The special went out on 3 December 1968 and was the most watched television event of that year, with Presley coming on in a black leather suit. The documentary tells the story behind all of it. Steve Binder is among its producers. The hundred and ten minute film was released in August 2023, an American production John Scheinfeld finished that year.
