What Rose Marie Is About
An opera singer travelling under another name is searching for her brother, who is on the run. She falls for the mounted policeman assigned to find him, and that puts the two of them in an impossible place: his work is to catch the person she most wants to protect. The film takes place in the northern landscapes of Canada and uses song as the thing that carries the story. It became one of the operetta adaptations that made a great success of the pairing of Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy in the thirties. James Stewart also appears in W. S. Van Dyke’s hundred and thirteen minute American film, completed in 1936.
