What Fake Gangster Is About
Kemal sells pişmaniye, a spun sugar sweet, at railway stations. He is naive, quick with his mouth, and has no idea that his father is one of Istanbul's mafia bosses. When the man is killed during a meeting and the estate starts being carved up, his father's lawyer finds Kemal and takes him around to claim his share. Going from one notorious gangster's place to the next earns him a reputation, while the man who actually killed his father stays at his side unrecognised. It is one of Kemal Sunal's most repeated shapes: the fool who survives every trap precisely by being one.
