Apdi The Gullıble

One of Kemal Sunal's comedies from the late 1970s. Apti is a simple man who harms nobody. He takes what happens around him for his own doing; he believes every good thing that occurs by chance was his work, and is not even surprised by it. One day the man everyone in the neighbourhood fears is beaten. Apti gets the credit. Nobody questions it and he suddenly begins to be respected. The standing changes his life. People are wary of him, they ask him for help, and Apti has to keep the new part going. He also falls in love with a singer, and the business gets more tangled. The humour is built on misunderstanding: Apti does nothing, everyone thinks he has done something, and he does not deny it. The idea underneath is how reputation is built; the man's power is not real, it is what people load onto him. Kemal Sunal plays Apti. Ayşen Gruda and Ünal Gürel are in the cast. Natuk Baytan directed; he made many films with Sunal and this is a typical example of his style of exaggeration. It runs about eighty-five minutes. A familiar choice for anyone who likes Yeşilçam comedy and the films of Kemal Sunal. For a viewer expecting fine humour, the film leans on broad comedy and proceeds by repeating situations.
