The Three Superboys Strike Again

A Turkish comedy from the Yeşilçam era. Three men come out of prison. Horoz Ali, Deve Ömer and Piç Rıza did their time together and make a promise on the way out: from now on they will live honestly. Ali's fiancée Cemile has waited for years. The plan is simple: marry, settle, and stay away from the old work. The promise does not last. Each of the three, without the others knowing, arrives at the same idea: the money of a boss called Fil Abbas is sitting there and can be taken. From there the film is about three separate plans colliding. Nobody knows what the others are doing, and the confusion that follows is where the comedy comes from. When the money changes hands it has to be hidden, and the method they find is the film's most memorable idea; it will not be written here. The narrative is crowded and fast and works with the habits of its period: fight scenes, jokes about accents, and dialogue open to improvisation. Cüneyt Arkın plays Ali and Gülşen Bubikoğlu plays Cemile. The actor playing Piç Rıza is Italian; Alberto Dell'Acqua worked under the name Robert Widmark at the time, and the film was made as a European co-production. Ernst Hofbauer is credited as director alongside Natuk Baytan. Who it is for: anyone who likes Turkish comedy of the 1970s and Cüneyt Arkın's comic side. Who it is not for: anyone measuring by today's standards; some of the jokes belong to their period and the women have very little room.
