What Sazen Tange and The Secret of the Urn Is About
The samurai Samanosuke, lured into a trap while carrying out a mission for his clan, is badly wounded and left for dead. He survives, but has lost an eye and an arm; he takes the name Tange Sazen and emerges as an entirely different man. What he goes after is a stolen urn holding a great secret of the clan, and he is not the only one looking for it. But Sazen has his own reckoning in the matter, and whose side he is on stays unclear to the end. Hideo Gosha’s ninety one minute Japanese film takes a well known folk hero and mixes him with humour. Kinnosuke Nakamura takes the lead; it was completed in 1966.
