What Samurai Wolf II Is About
The wandering swordsman Kiba Okaminosuke gets mixed up with a convoy of prisoners being taken to their executions and notices that one of them looks exactly like his dead father. Around him move crooked gold miners, a young woman who has lost her mind and a dojo master fixated on killing Kiba to prove his school’s style is the best. Hideo Gosha made the sequel within a year of the first Samurai Wolf being well received, keeping Isao Natsuyagi in the lead. Where the first stayed close to the standard swordplay pictures of the day, this one is more ambitious: stark black and white, plots folded over each other and a structure that follows several characters at once. A surprising amount happens in seventy-two minutes.
